We are delighted to announce that Keppel’s Column has been successful in its bid to win a prestigious International ‘Beautiful Buildings’ Green Apple Award 2023.
The awards were held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on 16th June 2023, and Keppel’s Column was awarded a Bronze award in the Structures category.
The awards highlight buildings that make a ‘positive contributions to our built environment’ and we feel that Keppel’s Column is a deserving winner. This much-loved local landmark had been closed to the public for over 50 years, before the works to stabilise and conserve it were undertaken.
Keppel’s Column is now fully restored, re-opened, and removed from Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register. Its future is secured for present and future generations, and it now means that visitors can climb to the top once again to take in the panoramic views across Rotherham.
