LABC Building Excellence Awards East Midlands 2016

A great evening was had by all on Friday night at the prestigious LABC Building Excellence Awards East Midlands 2016

The event was held at Athena, a stunning 1930’s conference and banqueting venue in Leicester and was chaired by Jayne Hall, the President of LABC, and Paul Smith, Chair of the LABC East Midlands Region. The awards were presented by Sponsors and the former England and Leicester Tigers Rugby Union Player, Graham Rowntree, who both relaxed and livened up the evening with his quick wit and jocularity.

The awards celebrate the very best of design and construction, whilst recognising the high level of skill and professionalism achieved in the short-listed buildings and we were delighted that the extension to the Trinity Hospital in Retford was recognised for the outstanding building that it is and was entered by Bassetlaw District Council Building Control Team into three categories.

Best Public Service Building
Best Small Commercial Building
Best Inclusive Building

Obviously everyone who is entered wants to win, but with twelve short-listed projects the competition was both strong and commendable, however we are delighted to have been presented with the award for the ‘Best Small Commercial Building’.

Bob Rabagliati, Trinity Hospital, said he was ‘overjoyed and felt the building was very special’, and both Steve Lyons and Steve Sowerby, T.G. Sowerby Developments, said they had always felt that the Darrel Room was a ‘strong contender’. Carl Andrews, Soul Architects, said he had always felt that this was ‘a unique project with the successful blend of traditional and modern architecture’.
