LABC Building Excellence Awards South Yorkshire and Humber 2019

Excellence Awards South Yorkshire and Humber 2019.

A great evening was had by all at the esteemed LABC Building Excellence Awards 2019 on Friday night. The event was held at the stylish Double Tree by Hilton Forest Pines Spa & Golf Resort, and was chaired by Guy Hobson, Chair of South Yorkshire and Humber LABC Marketing Group. The awards were presented by Sponsors along with the Master of Ceremonies, Blair Jacobs, who managed to relax and liven up the evening with his quick wit and great sense of humour.

Celebrating the very best in design and construction

The awards celebrate the very best of design and construction, whilst recognising the high level of skill and professionalism achieved in the short-listed buildings and we were delighted that The Virage Suite at Aston Hall Hotel won Best Commercial Building 2019. We attended the event with T&C Williams, the Main Contractors and William Saunders, who provided Structural Engineer and CDM services for the project.

We worked with the client to prepare outline proposals to look at the various ways the site could be adapted to add a Conference & Wedding Facility to their already successful and respected business. Through meetings and discussions we provided recommendations to take forward proposals for the changes, which received full planning permission and listed building consent.

This forward thinking hotel team could see the benefit of a ‘year round’ building to replace the ‘limited time’ planning permission on the former Marque which allows the hotel to run consecutive events – thus benefitting not only the hotel but also the local economy. It has exceeded all expectations.

Carl Andrews

Conservation Accredited Architect,

‘This is a unique project with the successful blend of traditional and modern architecture. Wanting to be respectful of the listed building I wanted a visual and physical separation between both buildings – this was achieved by providing an outdoor terraced seating area. I also wanted the new building to be subservient to the elevation of the original hotel and felt that lowering the building down was the best option of the site. The craftsmanship of the build has surpassed all of my hopes and the finished building is outstanding.’
